I'm a faculty member in the Computer Science Department at Dominican University in River Forest, IL (Chicago)

Born and raised in Germany, I've been in the US for a while. My undergraduate majors were in Political Science, Economics and Computer Science, my Ph.D. is in Computer Science. After graduation I taught in a number of visiting positions (incl. Oberlin College and St Lawrence University) before moving to Chicago last summer to join Dominican University in a tenure track position.

My research interests are primarily in evolutionary computation (e.g., Genetic Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimizations, ..). I'm also very interested in assistive technology.

In addition to learning about HFOSS this summer, I am also hoping to learn about the arduino/rasberry pi platforms to see how I might incorporate these into my hardware/architecture classes.

(I'm also a bit of a runner, I'm planning to bring my running shoes with me so I can perhaps explore Philadelphia by foot)

IRC Questions

  • How do people interact?

Seems like a typical chat-room sort of experience.

  • What is the pattern of communication?

None observed so far (just got on IRC last night .. pretty quiet)

  • Are there any terms that seem to have special meaning?

...

  • Can you make any other observations?

Not so far, new to IRC, but looking forward to learning and using it.

Project Anatomy Activity

Sugar Labs

Q: Can you determine from the information provided here whether the project uses a web-based common repository or a local repo?

A: Sugar Labs uses git(a distributed revision control system) to maintain its repository of source code ([1]). This is a very common platform for this type of task.

Re bug tracking and tickets, the types and categories of tickets listed for sugarlab are:

Blocker, Critical, and Major. For each assigned ticket the following information is maintained: ticket number, component, summary, status, owner of the ticket, the type of defect and severity. For unassigned tickets the status and owner information is missing.

Q: Include an entry on your wiki page that describes how the release cycle and roadmap update are related.

A: The roadmap is updated at the completion of each release cycle and contains among others information about the next schedule of releases and freeze points, and references to all tickets related to this release.

Each release cycle will contain, in addition to the final release, development, beta release candidates.

Sahana Eden

Q: How is the information here different than the information found on the Sugar Labs tracker page?

A: Each of the tickets in Sahana contains similar information as those in Sugar Labs, but the tickets are presented in various sort order, allowing users to access tickets by version, milestones, etc.

Q: Indicate the types/categories of tickets listed on this page as well as the information available for each ticket.

A: The following information is available for each entry in the active ticket list: Ticket number, summary, component, version, priority, type, owner, status and date the ticket was created.

Q: Can you determine from the information provided here whether the project uses a web-based common repository or a local repo?

A: It appears that the project uses a web based distribution, though they also make use of git for maintaining their various versions.
